The Olde Inn

Back in the spring we decided to try The Olde Inn down at Lake Blackshear. It's so close to home and we were really craving fish. There was a long wait, but we stuck it out. Our service that night was terrible, but the food was good. So good, that a few weeks later, we decided to try again. This time we made reservations. Our service was much better this time.

The rest of the spring/summer we ate there at least once a week. Sometimes twice.

We tried Grouper Fingers fried and broiled, Char-Broiled Salmon (my favorite), fried cheese sticks, fried green tomatoes, fried squash, grilled cheese, Tuna Steak, twice baked potato, and the grilled cheese. All excellent.

I also tried the hamburger and I did not like it at all. It tasted like a frozen burger.

The food is a little on the pricier side, but it is a better bargain than other similar restaurants in the area and you get a lot more food for the price.

The Cove at Lake Blackshear

We decided to give The Cove a try the other night. They weren't busy. It took 20 minutes for anyone to take our drink order, even though we were seated right beside the bar. The waitress who finally did take our order was not friendly or personable at all. Never even smiled. It took another 40 minutes for all of our food to come out. The kids pizza came way ahead of ours. We took our food to go because by then, the toddler had lost all interest in being distracted and just wanted to destroy the restaurant. Maybe when you are able to eat your pizza hot, it is delicious. By the time we got home, our pizza was cold and tasted awful! We spent $45 on crappy pizza and crappy service. We will not be going there again. I was also disappointed in the menu selection. They didn't offer a lot of choices of pizza for a pizza restaurant.

Carter's Fried Chicken

Okay, this will be like 2 reviews in one. Carter's is a frequent lunch spot that is very good. My favorite meal is the Chicken Filet basket. It is a boneless breast filet. With lettuce, tomato, mayo, & hot sauce you have a tasty sandwich. The basket comes with fries and a drink. This is one of my favorite meals for a quick lunch. $5.69 + tax (at time of this writing).
Also, Carter's has one of the best cheeseburgers in town. I have eaten both the single and the double. They are very good! In fact, I can't say that I've had a better hamburger in Americus.
Also if you do not want a sandwich, Carter's usually cooks several vegetables/sides to go with their fried chicken.

Carter's always has fast, friendly service. You can get it to go or eat there. Either way you are sure to enjoy a lunch or supper from Carter's.

One for the A.M. at Cutts Restaurant

I would like to share one for the morning diners that is kinda off the beaten path of Americus but none the less is still in Sumter County. My mornings generally start out with a quick something ranging from a sausage biscuit and diet coke to cinnamon roll and some sort of drink. Well not today, I had the opportunity of stopping at Cutts Restaurant in DeSoto and was well pleased with the results.

They have a casual dining atmosphere with an assortment of breakfast items. The food is served on a serving line with many choices and combinations at your fingertips. I started the order off with cheese grits and scrambled eggs (cooked just right) and added a side of bacon and toast and topped that off with a glass (or two) of sweet tea. Though there were many different items to choose from I tried to keep it quick and simple. A great breakfast for under $6 is sure to keep a person returning for more.
